The 2015 AFP Buyer’s Guide to Treasury Management Systems reviews the evolving condition of the global corporate treasury systems marketplace through the use of firsthand experiences of corporate practitioners and expert analysts. It cuts through to the key issues confronting treasurers and their advisors in evaluating today’s alternatives in technology solutions, particularly in terms of functional richness and technical alternatives.  

Last year’s guide noted the charge of software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology towards a dominant position in the treasury management system (TMS) marketplace. Interestingly, this year’s exercise provided evidence of a pushback by advocates of application service providers (ASPs) and installed solutions. The new guide reveals how the market is changing on both fronts, and identifies key issues in the application of technology that are confronting treasurers globally.  

AFP approached 10 global and regional TMS vendors with questions on the primary business issues being used in procurement processes to justify new technology investments for treasury operations.  We also asked for the vendors’ views on emerging trends that will be experienced over the next 12-18 months, as well as their clients’ and prospective clients’ technology preferences.  

For this purpose, we simply defined a TMS as “a mission-specific, integrated software solution that addresses the core corporate treasury business functions of cash, FX and interest-rate risk management, and treasury accounting.”  

AFP’s objective was to produce a condensed synopsis that provides readers with an up-to-date picture of what drives the marketplace, and how major vendors are differentiated by their business focus and technology policy. We sought pertinent insights that are uniquely available to TMS companies’ sales teams and relationship managers as these individuals have direct, first-person information on what the market wants. This approach provides a more practical and contemporary analysis.
